Online Teacher Training Foundation Course

Full course cost: £395 (payable in advance)

Application Process: The application form must be completed and submitted to teachertraining@odils.com at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the course. Following that, a pre-course interview will be conducted with the course tutor or manager.

Whether you are exploring a career change or taking your first step into education, this course equips you with an understanding of what ESOL teaching is about. It provides an overview of key aspects of teaching ESOL, including methodology, lesson planning, classroom practice, and reflective teaching, helping you build confidence and essential skills before progressing further.

So, if you are ready to develop practical teaching skills in a supportive, professional environment, this five-week course offers the ideal foundation to launch your journey into English language teaching.

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Applicants must have excellent competence in spoken and written English and be educated to the standard required for entry into higher education
  • Non-native speakers must be proficient English language users (minimum CEFR level B2+ or above, or IELTS band score 7)
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to learn how to explain the relevant features of English to learners
  • Applicants need willingness to work cooperatively as a member of the training group and respond constructively to feedback from the course tutors
  • ICT skills are essential to manage the demands of an online studying environment

  • 30 hours of guided learning over 5 weeks
  • 10 online (Zoom) sessions (3 hours each), delivered twice weekly
  • An additional week to complete your final reflective essay
  • Small group sizes (4–8 participants) ensure personalised support

• A reliable internet connection
• A desktop computer or laptop
• Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint
• A web camera on or attached to the device you will use
• A quiet and comfortable place where you can work uninterrupted for up to 3 hours

The course theory and content are delivered online via Zoom. The weekly input sessions take place twice a week from 6 pm – 9 pm.

To receive the ODILS Teacher Training Foundation certificate (Certificate of Completion/ Certificate of Attendance), ODILS requires a minimum of 80% attendance and the following: 

  • In-class active participation
  • Microteaching practice
  • Completion of a reflective essay
  • Submission of end-of-course feedback form
